DOMAINES JEAN-PHILIPPE JANOUEIX

Origins
The name of the illustrious Janoueix family, from the rural French region of Correze, first became associated with Bordeaux wine in 1867, when Jean Janoueix entered the wine business. Joseph Janoueix, one of his four sons, helped him to develop the company and quickly recognised the advantages of owning one’s own wine estate.
Joseph Janoueix:
The First Vines In 1930 he acquired Château Haut-Sarpe, a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé, to which he adds Château La Croix and La Croix Saint Georges in Pomerol. In this period he also established his own commercial arm and maried Marie-Antoinette Estrade, a woman of action with a strong will and a big heart. Her son, Jean François, is the father of Jean Philippe Janoueix.
Jean François:
Expansion He purchased Château Vieux Sarpe, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, in 1963, Château Haut Badette, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru in 1970, Château Le Castelot, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru in 1978 and finally Château La Croix Toulifaut in Pomerol in 1981.
Jean Philippe Janoueix: Creative Passion 1994 marks Jean Philippe Janoueix’s first vintage as a young farmer, with the founding of Château de Chambrun on a small 1.7-hectare plot in Lalande de Pomerol. Quickly, Chambrun became the reference for quality in the appellation and a centre of attention. This was to be the first in a long series of successes. These successes opened up many new opportunities and in this way Jean Philippe built up a fine portfolio of wines in the appellations of Pomerol, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, Saint Georges Saint-Emilion and Bordeaux Supérieur. In every case it was thanks to meticulous, careful selection of terroir and vines.
