PERRIER-JOUËT

PERRIER-JOUËT

PERRIER-JOUËT

For already two hundred years Perrier-Jouёt House of Champagne Wines has been creating exceptional wines, which provide a quintessence of true champagne, and has been maintaining the values and traditions, to which it adheres until now. House Perrier-Jouёt was established in 1811 in Epernay by Pierre Nicolas Perrier and Adele Jouёt, who met each other and married the same year. So eventually this outstanding champagne is a product of their love, which thus survives through the ages. Very soon Perrier-Jouёt champagne gained popularity, and its export began from 1815, with first exports going to England. In the 1840s the House Perrier-Jouёt began purchasing their own vineyards in the best terrains of Champagne region. In 1854 House Perrier-Jouёt was the first to capture the changing demands (particularly in Britain) of consumers and to begin production of champagne brut, while in 1858 it was also the first to produce millesime champagne (champagne made from a very good year’s harvest and matured for at least 3 years), on which the year of the harvest and name of the vineyard was mentioned (first on the corks and later on the label). In 1861 Charles Perrier, son of the founders of the House, acquired a status of an official royal supplier from Queen Victoria, and a few years later – from Napoleon III. In 1902 Henri Gallis, Charles Perrier’s nephew, who came in charge of the House in 1878, asked Emile Galle (a French artist who worked in glass, and is considered to be one of the major forces in the French Art Nouveau movement) to decorate a big bottle for the House. The unique bottle gently ornamented with enamel white anemones remained hidden in one of the Perrier-Jouёt cellars of for over sixty years. Successor of Henri Gallis, Michel Bouden and Master Distiller Andre Bavere were charmed by this elegant piece of art embodied on a bottle, where gentle anemones reflected the lightness and elegance of Chardonnay wines, and they immediately undertook to produce a special aged cuvee – the Belle Époque, which was launched with great success in Paris. In 1990 the Art Nouveau style mansion Belle Époque opened its doors, introducing interior and exterior designs with works of art by famous artists, including Majorel, Galle, Gimar and even the great Roden! Today Perrier-Jouёt is one of the world’s leading vintage champagnes and is marketed in many countries around the world.
