Aldo Sohm and Gerhard Kracher have been close friends for over a decade. They first met in New York in 2004. Aldo Sohm left his home in Tyrol in alpine Austria and moved to New York to further his career as a sommelier. Today, he is a head sommelier at Le Bernardin restaurant, one of the most critically acclaimed and best-known restaurants located on the East Coast of the United States. Numerous top awards, including Best Sommelier in America and the most prestigious title of Best Sommelier in the World, are credited to his achievements. Gerhard Kracher was, at the same time, the right hand to the late Alois Kracher and was managing the important American market. When Gerhard met Aldo, they both got on with each other right away and they shared a passion for the great wines of the world and great dining! Gerhard is now in charge of the world-famous Weinlaubenhof Kracher winery, now in its third generation. The wines are represented on the wine lists of outstanding restaurants in 45 countries, and the wine estate has been showered with outstanding ratings and awards over the past couple of decades. The idea to produce a wine together – under the name of Sohm & Kracher – began in 2009. As with many great ideas, the wine was created during a wine and dining experience. Both Gerhard and Aldo cherish indigenous grape varieties and they have a soft spot for Grüner Veltliner. The origin of the grapes for the wine is Weinviertel, where old vines are found growing on unique soil formations. The first wine was a single varietal Grüner Veltliner, and it was a huge success. Top ratings appeared virtually immediately in international magazines like Wine & Spirits.
