The founder of the winery Ewald Theodor Drathen GmbH is the German winemaker and politician Ewald Drathen. Many years ago, his ancestors settled in the Moselle region (Germany), having arrived from the Netherlands. Ewald’s father founded his winery here, and in 1924, he also brought his son to work there. Three years later, in 1927, Ewald Drathen opened his own wine production business. In addition to winemaking, Ewald became actively involved in politics, joining the German Center Party in 1934. He showed his active position both in politics and in social activities related to winemaking issues in the Moselle region. So, in 1949, Draten became chairman of the Association of Wine Merchants and Brokers in Koblenz. He also held a number of senior positions in other associations and organizations related to the production and trade of wine in Germany. For his active social activities, in 1971 Ewald Drathen was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The vineyards of the Ewald Theodor Drathen estate are located in the historical wine-growing region of Germany - Mosel-Saar-Ruwer. Here, on the steep coastal slopes, nature itself has created unique conditions for grape growing. Not the least important role is played by the noticeable difference between day and night temperatures, as well as the hilly terrain, which allows the vines to receive generous sun rays. In addition, nearby rivers and well-drained soils provide the vineyards with the necessary moisture. The most popular variety in this region, Riesling is famous for its fresh, bright and juicy taste, as well as its enchanting fruity aroma.
