Tequila is a blue-agave-based spirit made primarily in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, 65 kilometres (40 mi) northwest of Guadalajara, and in the highlands (Los Altos) of the western Mexican state of Jalisco. What is mezcal? Mezcal and Tequila are both agave-based liquors. However, Tequila can only be made from one type of agave. Tequila is made from Blue Agave or Weber Agave. Unlike Tequila, Mezcal is a spirit that can be produced from any varieties of the agave plant from many areas of Mexico. The flavor profile is very different than Tequila because it is typically smokier.
